The Unconquered Champion

The Unconquered Champion
A life of service
Edwinem, lord of Forèstèrra, serves Unauwen as a wandering knight and paladin. His reputation rests on defending the good rather than seeking comfort at home.
A trusted friend
He and Ristridin fight together in the Vorgóta Forest. Their friendship gives Edwinem someone to confide in when ominous suspicions arise.
A Foreboding Peace

A Foreboding Peace
Doubt amid optimism
Edwinem joins a diplomatic party bound for Eviellan, where reconciliation appears possible. He alone openly fears that the younger prince’s intentions are false.
A difficult warning
He tells Ristridin that the prince is dangerous precisely because he resembles his brother and can inspire trust. His suspicion proves more perceptive than the surrounding hope.
Escape in Black Armor

Escape in Black Armor
A concealed identity
Edwinem escapes Eviellan wearing black armor and a black shield, with his true white colors hidden beneath. He travels in secrecy because he has learned something that must reach the king.
A dangerous route
He intends to return through Dagonaut’s lands and the northern road. The escape turns him from diplomat into hunted messenger.
The Ambush

The Ambush
A false challenge
A Red Shield rider’s challenge appears to promise an honorable duel. Instead, the Red Riders attack Edwinem in a group and leave him mortally wounded.
A final transfer
Tiuri finds Edwinem alive long enough to hear his account and accept the mission. Edwinem dies having preserved the evidence, though not the chance to carry it himself.
A Legacy in the White Shield

A Legacy in the White Shield
Remembered by the court
Edwinem’s death is mourned in Unauwen, where his warning eventually exposes a plan against the Crown Prince. His reputation survives the failure of his peace mission.
A successor in spirit
Dagonaut gives Tiuri a white shield as a sign of service to Unauwen and remembrance of Edwinem. Tiuri inherits the mission’s ethical meaning, not Edwinem’s title or lands.
